SMPC To Host Tournament

Eastern Zone Regionals 2010

Polocrosse is an exciting, fast-paced team sport, best described as a combination of polo and lacrosse.  Developed in Australia and England, it is played on horseback with a lacrosse-like stick or "racket". Players use their rackets to pick up, carry, pass and bounce the ball while using their horses to dodge and push other players on their way to score a goal.

Sugarloaf Mountain Polocrosse Club was started in 2008 by a group of polocrosse enthusiasts in Boyds, Maryland. It is active in the American Polocrosse Association and supports the Pony Club polocrosse program. SMPC has been represented in tournaments from Texas to New York and has sent players to represent the USA on tours to Ireland, Australia and England.

At the 2011 Polocrosse World Cup, played in Rugby, England, this past July, the United States placed fourth, beating the host country, England, and coming behind third place Australia.  Three members of the Sugarloaf Mountain Polocrosse Club - Peter Balogh, Nick Balogh and Catherine Hanagan - represented the United States in the International Pony Club Competition which ran alongside the World Cup.

The SMPC Halloween Tournament will feature two full days of play on one field, and there is no charge for spectators. Games will be played from 8AM to 5PM both days.
